Your Gravatar is your globally recognized avatar, showing up on millions of sites across the web. In fact, we’re serving up 30,000 avatar requests every second – that’s billions of avatars every week, helping put faces to names all over the internet.
And today, we’re making Gravatar even better.
Initials Avatars: You Asked, We Delivered
Developers, this one’s for you. After years of requests (we heard you, we promise!), initials avatars are here. Now available through our free Avatars service and the Gravatar Enhanced plugin for WordPress, you can automatically generate professional-looking avatars using your users’ initials. Even if they don’t have a Gravatar account.
These new avatars automatically pull from the profile display name, creating initials with beautifully generated background and foreground colors. No display name? No problem – we’ll show a friendly emoji instead.
And while we were at it, we gave our default avatars a fresh wardrobe. The classic silhouette and logo avatars got a modern makeover that feels right at home in 2025.
Email Signatures That Pop
Want to share your Gravatar profile in your emails? We’ve made it ridiculously easy.
Here’s how:
- Head to gravatar.com/profile
- click on Email signature in the bottom left
- grab the code and paste it into Gmail or your email client
Check out our quick setup guides for Gmail, Apple Mail, and other popular email tools.
Clean, professional, and just a bit fun.
New Block Pattern for WordPress
For WordPress users, we’ve added a slick new block pattern in the Gravatar Enhanced plugin.
Build beautiful about pages for your company or team in seconds. Each team member’s Gravatar profile automatically populates their bio section – no copy-pasting required.
And profiles automatically update when changes are made on Gravatar.
What’s Next?
Keep an eye out for more updates as we continue making Gravatar the best way to represent yourself across the web.
And in case you missed last week’s update: custom domain smart redirects are now live!
